Limited Edition MTG Themed Cheez-It Boxes!

Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro keep finding unique ways to put Magic: The Gathering in front of the eyeballs of potential customers. And I must say, the recent collaboration with Cheez-It (Yes, the cheesy snack cracker) was one I didn't see coming. That said, advertising collaborations with popular American food brands is something we've seen before, specifically with Hot Pockets. Today, I'll cover everything you want about the MTG Cheez-It boxes.

Magic: The Gathering Cheez-It Boxes

Cheez-It is releasing two "ultra-limited" limited edition boxes to celebrate the 30th anniversary of MTG, which recently passed. As you can see, there are two different boxes; One is styled after the look of OG booster packs, and the other features recently used art of MTG character Teferi. One represents where the game started, and the other represents the present.

In my opinion, the one that looks like a booster pack is the cooler of the two, and "booster snack" manages to be mildly humorous. That said, these only come as a "bundle," where you'll receive one of each box. It's also worth mentioning that the crackers inside are the same (original Cheez-Its) in both boxes. And there are no cards or prizes inside like you used to get in cereal boxes back in the day. Which, I must say, seems like a pretty big missed opportunity.

The times were living in now chase cards, and ultra-rare limed edition versions of things are all the rage. So, I'm somewhat surprised these don't come with some exclusive token or something to drive interest. Because as it stands, the only thing making these "MTG Cheez-Its" is the art on the boxes. But for some, that'll be enough.

Price, Quantity Restrictions, And Where To Buy

How Much Do They Cost?

First, let's start with how much these things cost. For the bundle, which comes with one of each box, you'll be looking at $15 total. Considering a single non-MTG box of original crackers is around $3.50, this is quite the markup. Over double the price for the snacks themselves, in fact. That's another reason I was surprised that no other MTG-related perks were included. Unless you really want the art on the boxes (and some will), this is a pretty rough deal.

However, on a slightly more positive note, the shipping on the orders is free, and the taxes were less than $1. So, at least you're not paying much additional shipping, handling, or fees on top of the $15 price tag. Let's move on to the next point that I thought was interesting.

Quantity Restrictions

Orders are limited to two per customer, which I found strange. If I could sell my standard product for over twice as much as usual, I would let anyone interested in buying multiples do so. Instead, Cheese-It has limited each customer to two bundles. Their site touts these as "Ultra Limited," and choking off the supply tells me it probably will be, and they don't want a few people getting a hugely disproportionate number of these things.

I'm interested to see what these might be worth on the secondary market after some time and when they're no longer available. It's hard to imagine they'd skyrocket, but some hardcore collectors out there will want at least these boxes. So, only time will tell.

Where Can You Buy These?

As far as I can tell, the MTG Cheez-Its can only be bought directly from the Cheez-It website. So, they aren't coming from WOTC, and it doesn't look like you'll see these on shelves at your local supermarket either. Again, this seems like a bit of missed opportunity to me. Anyone with kids will tell you that snack boxes with "cool" will sell (even at inflated prices), even if the person doesn't know anything about it. And indeed, a few random MTG fans would spot it and throw it into the cart.

However, there's a reason that I write articles and don't work in advertising. Someone, somewhere, presumably knows what they're doing by making these exclusively available through the snack company themselves. Here's a link if you're interested in buying these - shopcheezits.com

 Conclusion

There you have it, my friends - Everything you need to know about the limited edition MTG Cheez-it boxes. I'm interested to see if these become popular and, if they do, if we'll see more collaborations like this. Comment below and let me know what you think of these and if you'll be picking these up. Until next time, take care.
