Description

Second version of persistent goblins, this one forgoes the ability to deliver a goblin beatdown and goes all in on the combo, can kill as early as turn 3

the combo revolves around infinitely sacrificing putrid goblin while a metallic mimic or grumgully is on the board as the -1/-1 counters from persist and +1/+1 counters from mimic/grumgully cancel each other out allowing putrid goblin to persist as long as the +1/+1 counter generator is alive.

deck contains 2 versions of the combo.

combo1:

putrid goblin + grumgully/metallic mimic + sling-gang lieutenant

combo 2:

skirk prospector + putrid goblin + grumgully/metallic mimic + pashalic mons

combo 2 allows for a t3 kill

  T1: skirk prospector

T2: metallic mimic or putrid goblin (if both are in hand and depending on the matchup putrid goblin is preferable as mimic only requires colorless mana)

T3: metallic mimic/grumgully or putrid goblin (depending on which one was played the previous turn), this assembles the infinite mana combo and allows to cast pashalik mons, goblin matron searching for pashalic mons, or if green mana was left up coco may be cast hoping to hit either mons or matron.

all combo pieces except mimic can be tutored for with matron and all pieces of combo 2 can be found off coco.

it is also important to remember snoop gains the activated abilities of the goblin on top of the deck, which can be relevant as it can sometimes act as a replacement sling gang lieutenant or skirk prospector. running a scheming symmetry could be considered to make this ability more relevant/consistent.

update: swapped out 2 snoops for munitions expert to have more interaction

--- tips ---

turn on auto order triggered abilities when playing this deck, as the combo requires a lot of clicks already and cutting down on an extra one helps speed it up considerably.

if possible, when casting a coco with a skirk prospector on board, try to leave black mana up, in case coco hits a matron this allows us to fetch either putrid goblin or sling gang lieutenant and still possibly cast them.

if multiple combo pieces are missing and fetching with a matron, the top priority targets are putrid goblin and skirk prospector as those are the cards with least redundancy in the deck.

on niche occasions where skirk prospector + putrid goblin + grumgully/metallic mimic and opponent decides to interrupt the combo by targeting either the prospector or the counter generator with removal while pashalic mons is on the stack or in hand (e.g. It was just fetched with matron and opponent suddenly realizes what’s going on), it is recommended to generate as much mana as possible off the skirk prospector before removal resolves, to cast pashalik mons and use its ability to generate as large of a goblin army as possible, this however can be extremely click intensive and time consuming.

thanks to coco the combo and kill can be assembled and performed at instant speed, once the pieces are on board the only window for interaction to interrupt the combo is when putrid goblin is in the graveyard with the persist trigger on the stack by either exiling it from the graveyard at instant speed or killing one of the other combo pieces during this time a second putrid goblin on board removes this window unless opponent has instant speed interaction for both.

effects that prevent ETBs don’t stop the +1 counter from mimic/grumgully.

sling-gang lieutenant causes loss of life not damage which can be relevant against decks like solemnity combo

If you *really* only focus on the combo, you could put in 4 Rhythm of the Wild. Then, when you have Putrid Goblin come back in, just select the +1/+1 counter.

Also, I did some persist shenanigans with mutate, and found out that killing your mutate stack with persist will only return the upper card instead of returning a disassembled mutate stack. Just posting this here in case where anyone gets some silly ideas. RIP, mutate swarm. ;(

as a note, thanks to infinite red mana, the cocos could technicaly be replaced by a muxus, however i havent experimented with this as i built this deck to play a goblins deck that doesnt revolve around him
