Learn more Download For WindowsThis is an ARTISAN (uncommon/common only) deck I put together, because I wanted to flesh out some underutilized cards in Magic: The Gathering. In the set Zendikar Rising, we have Kargan Warleader with a “lord” mechanic for warriors. Not much to say here, except that I wanted to do something with my cardboard at home. Thus came this deck list to life.
ORIGINAL DECK IDEA: https://youtu.be/RoMsnSjNmkw
MAIN:
Kargan Warleader is very straight forward. Play warriors early, pray to the magic gods we don't face much removal and start clapping some cheeks wit' dem bois. There's really no other way to build around her (I "think" this is a woman, I can't tell), however, in the Zendikar set we've got some rather useful equipments to have fun with.
Fireblade Charger, talk about equipments. This guy loves all them shiny pieces and does a pretty good job with them, too. Willing to smash faces with “haste”, as soon as he gets his/her/their hands on anything is already enough for it to point it towards OP's face.
Kor Blademaster, another Warrior just begging for an opportunity to dish out some damage, I'd bet my shorts on this Blademaster doing some damage with only a spoon, if it had the chance. Perfect fit for the deck.
Twinblade Geist // Twinblade Invocation appears yet again in my decks. It's a warrior, it has double strike, it can come back and give one of our creatures even more punching power.
Koll, the Forgemaster, this card I put in the deck, because this deck has two massive problems. Card draw and evasion and I'm hoping Koll will give us enough staying power, as he puts all recently dead creatures, that had an equipment attached go back to our hand.
Bruenor Battlehammer gives this deck the lacking punching power. This deck NEEDS all 4 copies, as it's the only proper way to utilize the double striking to it's fullest potential!
Boots of Speed, as I've mentioned, this deck lacks draw effects, therefore EVERY creature counts and we'll be needing the “haste” whenever we can get it.
Leather Armor Works surprisingly well in this deck, as it's equip cost is free, the first time every turn and works very well with Bruenor. The “ward” works best very early in the game.
Plate Armor is also a neat card. With enough equipment on the battlefield, this card will also have 0 equip cost. +3/+3 gives this card the edge!
Cliffhaven Kitesail and Goblin Morningstar are the last slots in the deck, that grant the sorely needed evasion. You will have games, in which the double striking will NOT suffice. Luckily enough, the Kitesail will attach itself automatically the first time around.
CHEAT SHEET:
- 12 sources of each mana should give us 86% chance of turn 1 mana. It's not really that bad if we don't do anything T1.
KNOW THY STRENGTH:
This deck will falter to heavy control, I've played so many games against black/x decks with what feels like a life time worth of removal. Unfortunately, this deck also lacks in term of the long way around. Be willing to mulligan aggressively for good hands and if you actually get caught up in an unfavourable match up, play to your best and don't get frustrated over things you can't control.
FUTURE SIGHT:
I will be building several flavorful 60 card artisan decks, with mechanics I deem fun enough to built around. Keep an eye out for the next one.
Thank you for reading!
