Allow me to lead off by saying it is my main goal to consistently bring the individuals that have offered kind words, followed me, made requests of me, and otherwise shown me support the funnest and freshest content I can. That being said, I have not had the opportunity to playtest this deck as most of the cards in this deck are still hours away from being released and, unfortunately, I'm not one of the special few that get to play with cards before they are released to all of us. I do however want to give, not only the individuals that have shown me love, but everyone, at least a decent head start on what I imagine will be a difficult deck for many other decks to deal with. Once I am able to playtest this deck I will certainly be adjusting it to make it as competitive as possible. So, without further ado allow me to introduce y'all to The Oozes of Oz!
On turn one we have a few plays starting with two copies of the ozolith. If the ozolith is in our starting hand, it is our first play, because all of our cards involve counters and we don't want our game ruined by a Brazen Borrower or a simple unsummon. Our next priority one drop is swarm shambler, because it has a bit of removal protection. These plays are followed by stonecoil serpent. Stonecoil serpent is our final play out of the three, because the longer we wait to play it, the more counters we can put on it, which is not true of our other one drops.
We also have three turn two plays. First we would like to play luminarch aspirant, as we will be able to put a +1/1 counter on it the turn we play it with is important for our removal resistant them this deck is built around. Then we would want to play scavenging ooze to hate on our opponents graveyard while putting counters on the ooze and gaining life for stabilization. Finally we have conclave mentor which helps pump our counters on our creatures even more while also giving us the potential do gain even more life should our opponent kill it. As an aside, while playing with conclave mentor, before the new set release, I was experimenting with it and hydra growth and found myself gaining 100+ life once or twice; certainly not something you should count on, but a super neat aside.
On turn three we have only one dedicated three drop in Oran-rief Ooze. This creature will pump a creature with a counter when it enters the battlefield, then it pumps all of our creatures that have +1/1 counters on them when we attack.
On turn four we have two different plays to make, both are excellent and I have yet to playtest the deck enough to find out in which order they should be played. However I would think the priority play is luminous broodmoth to prevent our board from being swept, followed by Basri's Lt. which also keeps our board from being swept.
We also runs couple copies of primal might for our own removal and a copy of the new lands that we can use as land should we be short on mana or big time sorceries which go with our counter theme should we be suffering from mana flood. We also run two copies of the great henge because it give us lifegain, counters, and the ability to draw cards. It's simply the most powerful artifact in standard.
Once again, I have not had access to these cards so it is simply a deck theory, that, as of tomorrow, will no longer be a theory. I do have faith that this will give all the decks that plan to remove creatures until they can play their late game win condition (I'm looking at you control decks), a run for their money.
I really hope you enjoy the brew and the deck guide. If you like this deck, check out my others, I've got something for everybody! If you want to see a deck built with specific cards, let me know and we'll brew something up for ya! Thanks for all the support I've recieved, because it means the world to me. As always, good luck!
