Welcome to another bottom tier deck that is quite fun to play and even boasts a reasonable winrate in high gold. I always hated playing against blue mages, and now I have decided that silencing them is just not an option. So what do we do when you can't beat 'em? JOIN 'EM.
This deck plays around the ability to play our cards at Flash speed by Leyline of Anticipation and annoy the living hell out of our opponent by casting everything in response. The general rule among flash players is that they usually run things with Flash. We do not. (besides Brazen Borrower) Instead, we try to find the cards that offer the most value when their high mana cost is out of the question and will allow us to set up an oppressive board state. These cards are:
In order to take high CMC out of the picture, we will need the help of:
This is our ideal turn 2 into turn 3 if the opponent does not have much interaction. If you happened to draw a Leyline of Anticipation in your opening hand, then you are in really great shape. Casting Sublime Empiphany on turn 4 just feels so good as you generate another copy of Naiad of Hidden Coves. A neat interaction of that copy ability is to copy Protean Thaumatruge, if he is currently a copy of another creature, then it will copy the current creature and keep the ability to shapeshift when an enchantment enters the battlefield.
But if your opponent is likely to Shock or Stomp your Protean Thaumatruge, then I generally hold him until I can drop an enchantment creature right behind him. Speaking of, we are running three copies of Wavebreak Hippocamp to ensure we don't run out of gas and it synergizes perfectly with what we are aiming to do: annoy the opponent by casting everything in response. Also casting Discontinuity with Wavebreak Hippocamp will stack the card draw on top, so you get to draw and end their turn!)
Of course with Fae of Wishes, we have a flexible wish board with plenty of goodies to surprise the opponent. You have the standard kit of Aether Guest, Unsummon, Negate and Essence Scatter, but we have the ability to play EXPENSIVE things for a discount. Some of my favorites are:
Kiora Bests the Sea God - Cast on opponent's endstep and immediately tap their board on your upkeep, swing in for lethal.
Overflowing Insight and Finale of Revelation - offer us an insane amount of card draw, and when you have multiple Naiad of Hidden Coves it's just not fair.
Flood of Tears - if you are outnumbered, then this is about as close to a board wipe as we come. If you happen to have four or more nontoken, nonland permanents, then we can slap a permanent down to the board. I usually try to get my Leyline of Anticipation back in play.
Ugin, the Spirit Dragon because reasons. I would cut Whirlwind Denial or Selective Snare to sneak Ugin in.
Thanks for reading if you made it this far and checking out the deck, I hope you enjoy the brew! :D
