Commander Legends Global Release Delayed

Wizards has announced a delay to the new Commander Legends set. Originally slated to release on November 6th, Commander Legends' Prerelease is now on November 13th and Release Weekend starts on November 20th. Jumpstart will also be releasing on Magic Online on November 19th. You can read the full original announcement here or below where it has been reprinted.

Due to production challenges related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we have made the decision to push back the full global launch of Commander Legends to November 20, 2020.

This will include all Commander Legends products: Draft Boosters, Collector Boosters, and Commander Decks. Prereleases will occur starting November 13, 2020 (Prerelease promos will have the previous date printed on them. In regions where in-store play is paused, organizers may host at-home and remote Prereleases only). On Magic Online, product and events will be available Thursday, November 19, 2020.

Previews for the highly anticipated set will now begin October 26, 2020.

We know players are excited for this release, and for that reason we've decided to move the launch back to provide all players a complete Magic experience at the same time. We continue to adapt to a world transformed, and we appreciate your continued patience as we manage these new challenges. We plan to deliver our products as soon as it is both feasible and safe, and we will continue to prioritize the health and safety of our employees and partners.

Commander Legends Set Information

Commander Legends is a much anticipated set as the whole idea behind the set is it being a Draftable Commander set. There are a lot more cards than normal in this set with 165 new cards, including 71 legendary creatures and planeswalkers. This set introduces a new foiling process, dubbed "foil-etched" cards. Each Draft Booster will have 20 cards and no basic lands. Collector Boosters will also be available for this product.

When drafting this set, players will draft two cards at a time because, just like in Battlebond, there are Partner cards in the set. Players will then build a 60-card deck with Commanders; unlike Commander, the Singleton rule will not apply and players can play duplicate cards in their decks.

It's a real shame this set was delayed; this is likely the most anticipated product of the year and I know players will be excited to get their hands on this product.
