Lost Caverns Of Ixalan Spoilers

Lost Caverns of Ixalan is the next major MTG release, and it is scheduled to hit shelves on November 17, 2023. We don't have much info on the set now, except it's a return to the plane of Ixalan and takes us underground to discover what lurks beneath the feet of the Vampires, Pirates, Dinosaurs, and Merfok from our last visit. However, in typical MTG fashion, something got released a little early. So, here's your first look at the Lost Caverns Of Ixalan Spoilers.

Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might // Temple of Power

Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might

Ojer is a mono-colored, four mana 4/4 God with trample and a powerful ability! And like many of the MDFCs from the original Ixalan sets, it transforms into a land. Whenever a red source you control deals an amount of noncombat damage less than Ojer's power to an opponent, it deals damage equal to Ojer's power instead.

So, a quick example would be you cast a Shockimage - That's a red source dealing an amount of noncombat damage less than Ojer's power, which is four. So, the shock deals four damage instead. Of course, where things get crazy is if you pump his power up and then cast something.

There are a ton of cards like Brute Forceimage or Infuriateimage in red that can pump Ojer up. In this case, any burn spells you cast would deal seven damage. And as the original Facebook post pointed out, this goes crazy with Grapeshotimage. Ojer + Brute Forceimage, and a Grapeshotimage equals up to 21 damage!

The other half, Temple of Power, taps for red and for three mana, can transform back into the creature side so long as you've dealt at least four noncombat damage that turn. This will be excellent to recur your threat repeatedly, even through removal, and can circumvent commander tax in EDH.
