Learn more Download For WindowsHumans, everyone’s favourite modern tribe now in Historic.
The plan is simple, through a combination of disruption and low cost threats we are looking to grind out a tempo win, slow down our opponent until we have a critical mass of tribe members to go face.
So onto the tribe members. For disruption we have Thalia, Guardian of Thraben as a one sided tax effect (we have 3 non creature spells mainboard, its basically one sided.) Kitesail Freebooter is a Duress on an evasive body hopefully snagging removal or a key combo piece, it also gives information so you know what to name with Meddling Mage. Meddling mage serves as a catch all for, well anything assuming you can get it down fast enough. Our Honorary Human for the deck is Deputy of Detention it comes down a turn earlier than the hostage taker which can be relevant and it hits any non-land making it more flexible as an answer. Speaking of Hostage Taker she’s a house, the ability to target artifacts is surprisingly useful, I’ve yet to have a game where she didn’t have targets and getting to use your opponents biggest threat against them is always fun, right?. Rounding out the disruption package we have General Kudro of Drannith the reason were even playing humans. He’s a lord for our other creatures, he’s an off colour Scavenging Ooze and he even has removal stapled on for the threats that matter (anything under power 4 we can chump for days.)
In addition we run several ways to protect our disruptive creatures. Dauntless Bodyguard can save any one creature while General's Enforcer protects all of our legends aswell as doubling up as a token producer/expensive scooze. Technically Barrin, Tolarian Archmage can serve as protection by picking up an important creature if we have advanced notice of a wrath or sorcery speed removal but mainly he is there to serve as a tempo play bouncing our opponents threats. Bonus points if you follow him with the meddling mage. Elite Guardmage is a reasonably costed evasive body with card draw and lifegain in our tribe allowing us to go long in those grindy matchups.
To finish the deck we have Glory-Bound Initiate as effectively a 4/4 for 2 to go face and gain a little life, it seems fine but there are probably better options. Dire Tactics as our only non creature spell as it has almost no downside in our deck and exiles a wide range of targets at instant speed (take that Uro.)
As for the sideboard its fairly basic, Plaguecrafter and Sorcerous Spyglass are mainly there as answers to planeswalkers. Containment Priest shuts of everything from Muxus, Goblin Grandee to Collected Company. Giant Killer is more removal aswell as more disruption in the form of a tapper. Dusk//Dawn is our sweeper of choice because if we don’t have kudro out it misses all of our creatures except the initiates and the aftermath side can refill our hands if we get wrathed ourselves. Charming Prince is just a stand out human you could probably argue for maindecking him, the scry is always nice the lifegain can be surprisingly useful and re-using etb effects is always powerful. Finally we have Despark which is just a good answer to a large number of threats in the format.
But yeah that’s that disrupt your opponent and smork face, simple right?
