Learn more Download For WindowsAfter having build and played the esper doom deck for a while I decide to look into an Orzhov Version of the deck next. Most of the cards here are being described in more detail in the Esper deck i previously posted. I am going to test this deck and then probably try to build a Mardu Version with either ob nixilis or anvil as well.
Notable differences: Instead of the blue cards (which seemed important, in particular omen of the sea which gave the deck a powerful flash card selection draw spell) I am going in deeper in the sacrifice theme.
Implement of Combustion: As long as Implement of improvement is not available and as long as ichor wellspring is banned this is the next best card alongside thraben inspector. The disadvantage is, that it does nothing as long as it is not sacrificed. I could see Blood Fountain being played alternatively. But the deck plays more sacrifice outlets than the Esper version.
Deadly Dispute: The first of which is Deadly dispute. This provides a sack outlet for all of our 1 drops. This makes playing 1 drops even more important as it was before when just playing rite of oblivion alone.
Cavalier of Dawn: Having a 2 color deck means we can more reliably play this card (WWW2). This essentially replaces dance of the manse as a finisher. It can sack your own card to fill the board or an opponents card. Pretty strong. Vulnerable to board wipes though, so maybe a planeswalker like lolth or kaya might be an alternative. (reduced to 1, playing 4 wandering emperors instead)
Sideboard: Without counterspells discard becomes more important. I definitely prefer those over cards like reidane.
Lets see how this one plays out
Edit. Tested the deck. It definitely functions reasonably well. Sometimes deadly dispute or the implement can be awkward though. I cut a land (castle ardenvale) and added another thoughseize Mainboard. I also think the deck can play a couple hives even though at some point it stretches thin for the check lands. Biggest problem is that without omen of the sea the deck can flood and it is a lot harder to find the right cards.
Added Lolth and ECD in the sideboard for more grind power in slow matchups. I can see cutting the Cavalier although he does work. 1 Thought distortion for sandbagging control opponents.
