Add at least 100 different cards to your collection and set it as your Compare Collection on the manage page to see what cards from this deck you are missing.
Compare your MTG Arena Collection with AetherHub decklists or any other decks found on the web with the MTGA Assistant extension. Syncing your account will automatically upload your collection so you can see what cards you are missing right here.
Learn more Download For WindowsThis deck is focused around combat damage, enchantments and unblockable creatures. If you like drawing cards you'll enjoy this deck.
Tatsunari is also in a lower tier so you won't often be running into Rusko, Teferi, etc. like you would with Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief.
The weakness is we're only running 36 lands so you want to make sure your opening hand has at least 2 on the draw and 3 on the play. It's a low mana curve, similar to Ivy decks, and there's plenty of ways to ensure you're making land drops.
Use the blue removal auras on any creature that could potentially block you so you can always attack your opponents or their planeswalkers. Prioritize or save removal for creatures with flying or reach.
There around about 10 ways to protect your attackers from removal so keep some mana open. Sometimes you'll want to delay playing threats until you can protect them. It's often better to focus on building up one ultra attacker so you just need to protect a single target.
Your frog is an excellent chump blocker because you can make a new one quite frequently. It also drains everytime you cast an enchantment and this can really add up over time. You'll be chipping away at your opponents life total so every bit of damage matters. It's rare you'll have some gigantic creature using auras except for Ancestral Mask and Demonic Embrace. An early Generous Visitor, Kami of Transience or Eutropia the Twice-Favored can also go off.
Looting effects can get rid of little creatures and excess lands. In the late game you're going to want auras and protection spells over pretty much anything else.
Considerations
Originally, I was running more countermagic but, as you can see from successful Ivy decks, protection spells are usually better. If you find you want more cheap counters I'd go with An Offer You Can't Refuse, Miscast, Decisive Denial, Spell Pierce, Negate, etc. I don't like Swan Song because it gives your opponent a flyer. This list is very tight and if you're going to make cuts I wouldn't recommend taking auras out. You'll find when you're playing this deck you're usually happy to draw auras. On the other hand, if you cut too many creatures you'll find you have a hand full of dead auras and protection.
It might seem like a good idea to run cards like Kaya's Ghostform, Demonic Vigor, and Malakir Rebirth but in practice your auras and +1/+1 counters will fall off and you'll just be left with some dinky creature.
Lifelink is another good thing to have because you'll find yourself in damage races when you opponent realizes they can't block you. I am very happy with Hateful Eidolon and Vault Skirge. I wish there was a decent, cheap aura that gave lifelink plus some evasion or stat boosts, but your only real options are Eternal Thirst and Cartouche of Ambition which aren't worth it. Black has a few other small creatures with lifelink I'd consider, such as Valentin, Dean of the Vein, both we want to prioritze creatures with flying/unblockable, hexproof/ward/indestructible, enchatment creatures, or creatures that have an ability when they deal damage.
Other creatures to consider:
Aphemia, the Cacophony
Mischievous Geist // Catlike Curiosity
Gingerbrute - I have run this in the past
Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar
Guild Thief
Gutter Skulker // Gutter Shortcut
Hope of Ghirapur - I might find room for this
Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons
Kami of Bamboo Groves
Ledger Shredder
Maraleaf Pixie
Mercurial Spelldancer (not enough instants and sorceries to really benefit from copying)
Network Disruptor
Ornithopter of Paradise
Sea-Dasher Octopus
Slippery Scoundrel
Spectral Sailor
Thousand-Faced Shadow
Valentin, Dean of the Vein
Yuan-Ti Malison (I ran him at first and realized that dungeoning is underwhelming and don't like that he had to attack alone to be unblockable).
Other spells to consider (in addition to the counterspells I listed above)
Blossoming Defense
Cartouche of Strength
Dead Weight
Dive Down
Favored Enemy
Gaea's Gift
Grafted Identity (This is a high ceiling card but it's floor can be very low)
Curator's Ward
Wild Shape
Metamorphic Alteration
Phyrexian Arena
Ranger's Guile
Rousing Read
Rush of Vitality
Search for Azcanta // Azcanta, the Sunken Ruin (Probably too grindy)
Sleep with the Fishes
Veil of Summer
You See a Guard Approach
Hydra's Growth
