Most Expensive Tarkir: Dragonstorm Cards - Top 20

We're about one week away from the release of Tarkir: Dragonstorm, and excitement for the set is in full swing. From a powerhouse new Ugin planeswalker to commander staples and a brand new Mox, Tarkir Dragonstorm has a lot of things that players want to get their hands on... Many of which come in showcase and halo foil versions. Today, I'll be going over the top 20 most expensive Tarkir: Dragonstorm cards.
Tarkir: Dragonstorm - Most Valuable Cards
20. All-Out Assault (Showcase) $15.74
All-Out Assault is very appropriately named. It gives all of your creatures a +1/+1 boost and adds deathtouch too. Already, this is something a lot of decks will be interested in playing in Commander. And it's not even half the text - When it enters the battlefield in your main phase, you get to untap all your creatures and have a second combat phase! Very spicy card with some nice art on the showcase version.
19. Clarion Conqueror (Showcase) - $20
What isn't to like about Clarion Conqueror? It has a very relevant creature type, a decent stat line, and evasion, and offers a nice stax effect by putting the brakes on any activated abilities that other players may be counting on.
18. Dracogenesis (0300 Showcase) - $29.94
Dracogenesis is one of the main cards that has been generating buzz, and the buzz is well-warranted. The text speaks for itself here - You can cast Dragon spells without paying their mana cost. Considering Dragons have some very powerful, high mana value creatures with powerful abilities and some of the best tribal synergies, this is a powerhouse of an enchantment. Spoiler alert: This isn't the last time you'll see this card.
17. Mox Jasper - $30
Anytime players see "Mox," we tend to pay attention. In true Mox fashion, Mox Jasper is a 0-cost mana rock. The catch is that you have to have a Dragon to tap it. Considering there are only six one mana creatures that count as Dragons (Dragons + creatures with "changeling"), you might not be able to start using this super early without some additional ramp. That said, even if it comes online a little later in the game, it's still free.
16. Call the Spirit Dragons (Showcase) $34
Dragons get yet another fun card with Call the Spirit Dragons. Being five colors means this will slot perfectly into The Ur-Dragon
and Tiamat
builds in Commander, and I think it's solid. Sure, the alternate win-con might be a little hard to pull off, but that's balanced out by giving all your Dragons indestructible. Plus, even if you don't manage to win the game on the spot, you're still throwing counters on your board every turn. If you ask me, the "floor" on this is good and the "ceiling" (while unrealistic) is "win the game."
15. Elspeth, Storm Slayer (Borderless) - $36.39
Here we have the first of four appearances for Elspeth, Storm Slayer. At five mana, the card does just about everything you could hope for in terms of token decks. The static ability is yet another token doubling effect (Anointed Procession
, Mondrak, Glory Dominus
, Parallel Lives
) that players will gladly take the redundancy for in singleton formats like EDH.
Considering the static ability, the +1 will make two tokens instead of one and put Elspeth to a very healthy six loyalty, while making bodies to protect herself. The -0 adds a permanent +1/+1 counter to your entire board and gives them all flying until your next turn. Not only can this be a backbreaking anthem on offense, but it'll be clutch on defense since it gives you flying blockers through the opponent(s) turn.
The -3 isn't flashy, but you can't complain about removal (that can be used the turn it enters) tacked onto an already stacked card. As of now, this borderless version is the cheapest copy, coming in just cheaper than the regular version.
14. Elspeth, Storm Slayer - $38
Speaking of the regular version, here it is. Of course, same card, different art. I would think that this version of the card will end up the cheapest version once the set comes out and the prices settle some.
13. Dracogenesis (Showcase) - $41.43
This is the other showcase version of Dracogenesis, and it comes in slightly pricer than the version at number 18.
12. Mox Jasper (Showcase) - $42
Here is the showcase version (which is quite awesome, I might add) of Mox Jasper, which already appeared at number 17 on the list. As of now, this version is around $12 more than the regular version but that's likely to change after release.
11. Craterhoof Behemoth (Showcase) - $50
Craterhoof Behemoth needs no introduction to those who have been around the game for a while. If you're new, Craterhoof is one of the best closers in MTG and has dished out many a loss in Commander since it was printed. Considering it is such a staple, it's usually a little pricey, and this reprint (especially the fancier versions) is no different.
10. Elspeth, Storm Slayer (Showcase) $59.90
At the halfway mark, we have the showcase version of Elspeth, Storm Slayer. I covered it in more detail up above, but the TLDR version is that she offers redundancy for powerful token doubling via the static ability and solid offensive and defensive capability with the three abilities.
9. Ugin, Eye of the Storms (Borderless) - $62.84
Ah, Ugin, Eye of the Storms. Ugin Planeswalkers have a history of being pretty damn good and this one is certainly a powerhouse. Seven mana (you're welcome Tron), seven loyalty, and when you cast it, you exile a permanent that is one or more colors. Then, anytime you cast another colorless spell with Ugin in play, you'll exile another permanent that is one or more colors. That's pretty oppressive, and we aren't even to the abilities yet!
+2 gains you three life and draws you a card. The zero ability casually gives you three colorless mana - Combine this with the second part of the static ability, and any cheap, colorless spell (Expedition Map) is a removal spell. And finally, the -11, which lets you search your library for any number of colorless nonland permanents and play them all for free!

Considering the static ability and the +2 go a long way in stabilizing you, I don't think it's going to be Christmas-land getting this up to 11 loyalty, assuming your opponent lasts that long. If you do ever get to ult this, then it's certainly GGs after the Eldrazi onslaught that is sure to follow.
8. Ugin, Eye of the Storms - $65
Again, here we have the regular version coming in slightly higher than a borderless or showcase version. As time goes on, the regular version is likely to be the cheapest.
7. Death Begets Life (Showcase, Halo Foil) - $75.00
At number seven we have a card we haven't had on the list yet, Death Begets Life. It is an eight mana board wipe that destroys all creatures and enchantments then draws you a card for each of them. Of course, hitting two permanent types is nice but the real kicker here is the card draw. If you wrath the board and get a full grip of cards for it you can be pretty certain you'll be able to rebuild faster than everyone else.
Not only is the card good but the price we're seeing now is for the showcase, halo foil version.
6. Ugin, Eye of the Storms (Showcase) - $98.97
Here we have yet another version of Ugin - This time the showcase version which is currently at nearly $100 proir to release.
5. Clarion Conqueror (Showcase, Halo Foil) - $100
In a somewhat surprising jump, we have Clarion Conqueror, (which was number 19) showing up in the number top 5 as well. As I mentioned above, the card isn't bad. The stats and evasion are well-costed and the stax effect is something that many white-based Commander decks could put to good use. That said, I am a little surprised to see the showcase, halo foil version currently at $100. Only time will tell if this will hold anywhere near here.
4. Craterhoof Behemoth (Showcase, Halo Foil) - $140
At number four, we have the mightly Craterhoof. This time in showcase, halo foil version with some stellar art. If you like overrunning oppoents in style, this one is for you!
3. Dracogenesis (Showcase, Halo Foil) - $150
The showcase, halo foil version of Dracogenesis (with other versions at number 13 and 18) is currently at $150. We've already been over why the card is good and that's no different for this version. However, I don't personally like the way the showcase/halo foil version of this looks because aide from the pips in the mana cost the cards looks mighty like a green card to me, which is weird.
2. Elspeth, Storm Slayer (Showcase, Halo Foil) - $289.99
This is Elspeth's fourth mention so far! Again, the card is bomb and this will likely be the rarest version of the card and therefore be the most expensive. I'm sure the price will come down after release but I wouldn't count on it being cheap.
1. Ugin, Eye of the Storms (Showcase, Halo Foil) - $399.99
At number one for the most expensive Tarkir: Dragstorm card is the showcase halo foil version of Ugin, Eye of the Storms, which is currently at $400! Of course, this is preorder prices but still. Much like I mentioned for Elspeth above, it will go down but don't expect it to be cheap. If you go play prelease, this is what you want to see.
