Storyline

Five clan leaders on the war-torn plane of Tarkir performed the ancient Stormnexus Ritual, summoning spirit dragons that helped overthrow their dragonlord oppressors. Two years later, Narset, the Jeskai Waymaster, stands in a crowded tavern as performers dramatize her victory. But the dragonstorms haven't stopped; they've intensified. It has reshaped the landscape and spawned wild, intractable dragons. As Narset considers whether they've traded one evil for something worse, a messenger bursts in with urgent news: a winged woman named Elspeth has arrived, seeking an audience. And if a planeswalker has come looking for Narset, something terrible must have happened beyond Tarkir's borders...

Mechanics

Endure

(Abzan)
A keyword action for creatures that gives you a choice when it resolves. When a creature "endures N," you can either put N +1/+1 counters on it or create an N/N white Spirit token. If the creature isn't on the battlefield when the ability resolves, you'll simply get the Spirit token.

Flurry

(Jeskai)
An ability word that triggers whenever you cast your second spell in a turn. Each flurry ability has different effects, but all trigger only once per turn. The creature with flurry needs to be on the battlefield to see the second spell cast, but doesn't need to see the first one.

Renew

(Sultai)
An ability word for activated abilities that can only be used from the graveyard. All renew abilities require exiling the card as part of the cost, can only be activated at sorcery speed, and involve putting counters on creatures (often +1/+1 counters). The Sultai aren't about to let death get in the way of being useful.

Mobilize

(Mardu)
A triggered ability that activates whenever a creature with the ability attacks. The number after mobilize indicates how many tapped and attacking 1/1 red Warrior tokens you'll create. These tokens get sacrificed at the beginning of the next end step, and since they enter already attacking, they don't trigger "when this attacks" abilities.

Harmonize

(Temur)
An alternative casting cost for cards in your graveyard. You can pay the harmonize cost rather than the mana cost, and as an additional cost, you may tap an untapped creature you control to reduce the generic mana in the cost by that creature's power. This reduction only applies to generic mana, not colored mana requirements.

Omens

A new spell type attached to Dragon cards, similar to Adventures. Omens have their own name, type line (with the new Omen subtype), mana cost, and rules text. When casting the card, you choose either the creature or the Omen. When an Omen spell resolves, you follow its instructions and then shuffle the card into your library.

Behold

A mechanic that requires you to either choose a Dragon you control or reveal a Dragon card from your hand. Some spells have additional effects if a Dragon was "beheld" this way, regardless of which method you used.

Monocolor Hybrid Mana

Also known as "twobrid" mana, these symbols can be paid with either one mana of the specified color or two generic mana. Each symbol still contributes 2 to the card's mana value regardless of how you pay for it.
