The Mechanics
Main Set
Toxic
Players dealt damage by creatures with toxic get a number of poison counters equal to the toxic value. So, toxic 1 gives one poison counter while toxic 3 would give three. Increasing the creature's power will not increase the toxic value. Example: Annex Sentry.
Proliferate
When you proliferate, you'll choose any number of players or permanents with counters on them and give each of them another one of those counters. Example: Experimental Augury.
For Mirrodin!
For Mirrodin! shows up on equipment and allows you to create a 2/2 rebel token and attach the equipment to it, whenever the equipment enters the battlefield. Example: Blade of the Shared Souls.
Corrupted
Corrupted is an ability that triggers when your opponent has three or more poison counters and often makes the ability/card stronger. Example: Bring the Ending.
Oil Counters
Oil Counters are a new type of counter that do various things. Example: Vindictive Flamestoker.
Affinity for Equipment
This ability reduces the cost of a spell with the ability by one mana for each equipment card you control when you cast it. Example: Rebal Salvo.
Digital-Only Mechanics
- Conjure - Creates a digital object similar to a token.
- Seek - Searches a card out of the library that meets the criteria on the card.
- Perpetual - Changes a card's properties.
- Spellbook - Conjure a card from among three randomly selected spellbooks.
- Intensity - Cards with this ability start with a certain "intensity" and grow from there when their conditions are met.
- Boon - Represents delayed triggers on things that disappear when they're gone.
