10 Non Oko Decks that can Save Standard
Believe it or Not, it is Possible to Play a Non Oko Deck
For those wondering if the Standard meta would be healthier after the Field of the Dead ban, based on the results from the Mythic Championship qualifier it appears the answer is no. Heading into day 2 of the tournament, 67% of the decks ran Oko, which trounces the 40% FotD meta. Additionally, there were more copies of Breeding Pools run than Mountains, Swamps and Plains combined. However, since this tournament was only two days after FotD actually became banned on Arena, I still have hope. Here is 10 non-Oko decks that could save standard

This deck was heavily inspired by a video from YouTuber MonoBlackMagic, with the addition of Ajani and two Gilded Goose. While on the surface this deck may seem similar to Selesnya Adventure lists you may have seen before, it changes dramatically by adding in Neoform, Callous Dismissal and the top end of Harmonious Archon. Essentially, this deck goes wide with cheap creatures, buffs them with Venerated Loxodon, and then you can Neoform the Loxodon into Archon to give yourself a massive board state. Archon makes all your small creatures, like the callous dismissal token for example, into huge board threats, allowing you to very quickly overwhelm your opponent. Also, you can Neoform a token to get an Edgewall Innkeeper out if you need to fix your engine in a pinch.

This deck comes to you from EDMVyrus, the same guy who was the only player piloting Rakdos Sacrifice in the last Mythic Championship. A traditional control deck that counters your spells in the early game, and then cleans up what your opponent managed to get out on the battlefield in the end game with Mass Manipulation, Time Wipe and Agent of Treachery. This deck seems well placed against many of the creature focused simic builds, and stealing a large Hydroid Krasis can feel pretty good!

A really cool deck that was originally designed to take advantage of Field of the Dead, but still has a lot of potential. The deck wins by controlling your opponent untill you can build a large enough mana base, and then you can go off for some crazy one turn wins with Bolas's Citadel and Edgewall Innkeeper to get a massive Smitten Swordmaster Combo off.

A deck I have seen more and more on the ladder recently, where you mill yourself to get your Arclight Phoenix and Creeping Chill into your graveyard. This deck is a little draw dependent since it heavily relies on drawing Drowned Secrets, and can be a little weak to aggro matchups, but can win in a flash by getting three or four Pheonix's out on the battlefield at one time.

This list that finished third in the MCQW appears to be the upgrade of the previous Rakdos Sacrifice deck that was in the last Mythic Championship. It still has all the normal goodies like Claim the Firstborn and the Oven/Cat combo, but also plays two maindeck Noxious Grasp and Cavalier of Night. Although I really like this deck, I think it could be improved even more by adding Karn for some real shenanigns to exploit the Oven/Cat combo. I will make a deck tech on that later on this week

A deck that many people have seen since day one of Eldraine but has always fell a little short. Now that Field is banned however, it is probably possible to tune this to really punish the Oko builds. Doom Fortold is obviously the workhorse of this deck, and I would add Wishclaw Talisman and possibly Karn to this build. You can bounce the Wishclaw Talisman with T3feri after you activate it, which is a really slept on combo that will allow you to find your combo pieces.

Mogwai has been trying to getting this deck to work for at least the last 4 standards, and it always seems to fall just a little bit short. However, getting Fires of Invention out on the battlefield with this deck is pretty deadly based off the top end options. The Chandra and Bolos top end can end a game extremely quickly, and being able to get them down in the same turn ramps up the clock by a turn. While no versions of this deck made the top 16, a few made day 2 of the MCQW.

Another Fires of Invention deck that has been kicking around and scene some limited play on the ladder. Deafening Clarion can clean up a lot of the early game ramp creatures from the Simic decks, and then the big planeswalkers can close off the game. Sarkhan is the big win con here, and swinging into your opponent with a barrage of 4/4 Flyers can be pretty nice.

This is in all likelihood not the best Happily Ever After deck, but I think it is certainly possible to make this win con work consistently. Yes you do need a lot, but Nissa into Planewide Celebration can answer alot of the tricky requirement. It is possible to gain 16 life from one celebration, and if you dont need all the lifegain the tokens it creates are all colors. Additionally, you can search for Sphinx of the Guildpack from your sideboard, and with Nissa out it makes it much easier to cast. The mana base does not have too many Forests so that could be improved, but I think there is something here!
