Whacky Phyrexia: All Will Be One Pioneer Brew - Malcator, Purity Overseer Deck
Video By Meryn MTG
I've seen quite a few new decks emerge from Phyrexia: All Will Be One cards - The one I want to highlight today is a Malcator, Purity Overseer Deck in Pioneer. This build comes from content creator Meryn MTG and is quite unique. It uses Panharmonicon and Yorion, Sky Nomad to abuse the ETB trigger of Malcator, Purity Overseer. However, that's just the beginning of the spice.
Below I'll provide her deck list, go over the name-sake card, and break down the deck works. If you're interested in janky brews featuring cards from ONE, check out Meryn's channel. Ok, let's kick things off with the list.

Malcator, Purity Overseer Overview
Malcator, Purity Overseer is an interesting card to build around. The first portion of the card is basically a U/W version of Blade Splicer. When it enters the battlefield it creates a 3/3 Golem token. However, at the end of turn, if you've had three or more artifacts enter the battlefield you create another 3/3. If you can pull this off, Malcator can generate seven power, spread over three bodies. Pretty good.

So, if you're looking to maximize the value you can generate here, you'll want to have at least three artifacts enter the battlefield as often as possible. It's worth noting that the initial token that Malcator creates is an artifact and does count toward his own ability. Triggering this second portion of the card is where Meryn added the spice we've come to expect from her. Let's take a more in-depth look at how the deck works.
How The Deck Works
Meryn's build focuses on exploiting the fact that Malcator makes a token when he enters the battlefield. The main way to do this is with Panharmonicon, which will double up these triggers and give you an additional token. That said, there are a ton of other cards with great ETB effects to make use of it as well. And a great number of them create artifacts. So, doubling up on things like Thraben Inspector is how you'll trigger Malcator, Purity Overseer's last ability.
Next, there are four copies of Master Splicer. Not only does this also create a 3/3 Golem token but it also functions as a lord by giving your Golems +1/+1. The final piece of the puzzle here is the flicker package, which will allow you to get these ETB triggers repeatedly and generate some massive value. To support this, the deck runs Yorion, Sky Nomad as a companion as well as in the mainboard.
With the general overview out of the way let's look at each portion of the deck a bit more thoroughly.
ETB Value Triggers
Here are the cards that you'll want to be flickering to generate value with Panharmonicon. As you'll see there are tons of ways to gain life, draw cards, gain life, and create creature tokens.
- Charming Prince (Can also flicker things)
- Spirited Companion
- Thraben Inspector
- Fblthp, the Lost
- Drowner of Hope
- Agent of Treachery
- Malcator, Purity Overseer
- Master Splicer
ETB-Based Removal
The deck has quite a few ways to deal with opposing threats and they all trigger when they enter the battlefield. So, if you double them up, you'll be removing two things for each one. Furthermore, you can always flicker them to choose a new target if something more pressing comes along.

Another Way To Build With Malcator, Purity Overseer
Here is another idea for Malcator in Pioneer if you want to take him in a different direction.
Eggs
In this strategy, you'll be spamming cheap artifacts as often as possible to create Golems with Malcator. Mox Amber is a powerhouse mana rock that's completely free and can generate extra mana. Considering Malcator is legendary there's some nice synergy here. Furthermore, you can add Saheeli, Sublime Artificer, Emry, Lurker of the Loch, and Sai, Master Thopterist as well - All of which add to the legend count and love artifacts.

There are a ton of one-mana artifacts in Pioneer that can be reduced to free with like Foundry Inspector and chained together. If you play Mystic Forge you even cast spells directly from the top of your library. Lastly, if you did run Saheeli, Sublime Artificer, Sai, Master Thopterist, and Malcator, Purity Overseer you'd have a ton of token production. So, I'd probably run Gideon, Ally of Zendikar as an anthem effect to help close out games.
Conclusion
This is one of the cards from Phyrexia: All Will Be One that I was excited to brew around with and also to see what others came up with. That said, I thought the Yorion/Panharmonicon shell here was really clever and wanted to share it. Moving forward, I think this is a card I would like to build around in Modern as well. I hope you enjoyed looking at Malcator in Pioneer with me. If so, comment down below and let me know what you thought of my alternate build.
